Public Health Celebrates the Office of Animal Welfare and Outgoing Director Hetti Brown

Three years after it was created, the Division of Public Health (DPH) Office of Animal Welfare (OAW) celebrates today the accomplishments of OAW, including those of Director Hetti Brown. Brown, who will be leaving Dec. 2, 2016 to move to the Midwest, expressed her appreciation to the OAW team and its many supporters. “It has been a privilege to work with such a great group of people,” said Director Brown. “I have also been lucky to work with so many legislators and animal advocates over the years as we created this office. Moving was a difficult decision and I will miss Delaware. I am confident that OAW will remain strong and that DPH will select an accomplished successor.”




DNREC now accepting proposals for wastewater, surface water, and drinking water matching planning grants

DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship, the office of Environmental Finance, and the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) Division of Public Health are now accepting proposals from state, county and municipal governments and governmental subdivisions for matching grants for wastewater, surface water and drinking water project planning. Proposals must be received by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 16, 2016.




DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife announces annual fall trout stocking in White Clay Creek

The Delaware Division of Fish & Wildlife’s Fisheries Section announced today that White Clay Creek has received its annual fall stocking of trout – a DNREC ritual since 2007.




2016 Coastal Cleanup drew more than 1,500 volunteers who collected 6 tons of trash and recyclables from 45 sites

This year’s DNREC-sponsored 29th annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup held Sept. 17 drew 1,572 volunteers, who collected 6 tons of trash from 45 sites along more than 75 miles of Delaware’s waterways and coastline stretching from Wilmington to Fenwick Island. About one-quarter of that trash – mostly aluminum cans and glass and plastic beverage bottles – was recycled this year.




Workers’ Compensation Rates Unchanged for 2017

Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart today approved the Delaware Compensation Rating Bureau (DCRB)’s workers’ compensation amended rate filing, which recommends no changes in residual market rates or in voluntary market loss costs for 2017.
