The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating Multiple fires in New Castle County.
At approximately 12 PM on January 5, 2024 the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company of Newark was alerted to a fire in the unit block of Boyds Valley Dr., in the development of Meeting House Hill. Upon arrival the Fire Department found smoke coming from the residence and possibly one person still inside of the residence. They also were confronted with several EMS patients suffering from minor burns and smoke inhalation. All residents were evacuated from the building and the missing family pet was located in good condition. Deputy Fire Marshal’s were called to the scene and determined the fire origin to be in the bedroom of the residence, the cause is still under investigation. Four people were transported to Christiana Care via New Castle County Paramedics and numerous BLS units. Two middle aged males were treated for smoke inhalation and transferred to Crozer Chester Hospital for further treatment. Their conditions are not known at this time. A female and a small child were treated and released from Christiana Hospital. Damage is estimated to be approximately 25,000 dollars.
Then on the evening of January 5, 2024 at approximately 10 PM, The Christiana Fire Company was alerted to a fire in 700 block of Christiana Rd., the Cedarwood Apartments, for a building fire. Upon arrival the Fire Department found a small fire in the bedroom of one of the apartments and quickly extinguished the fire. Deputy Fire Marshal’s were called to the scene and determined that the fire originated in a closet in the bedroom and was intentionally started by a juvenile. No injuries were reported and damage was approximately 2,000 dollars. The fire alarm did activate and notify residents.
This morning January 6, 2024 at approximately 2:30 AM the Five Points Fire Company was alerted to a fire in the 500 block of Homestead Rd., in Alban Park. Upon arrival the Fire Department found fire and smoke coming from a two story townhouse apartment. Multiple units were called to assist. The fire was quickly extinguished. EMS evaluated and transported one child that was taken to AI DuPont Hospital for treatment of minor burns. Deputy Fire Marshal’s responded to the scene and determined that the origin of the fire was a second floor bedroom and the cause is still under investigation. Damage is estimated to be 50,000 dollars. The fire alarm did activate and notify residents.
