Motivation and support come in many forms, including a cold nose and a warm heart.  Delaware State Fire Commission welcomed its newest staff member, Canine Companions Facility Dog, Ajax.  Ajax will assist handler Frank Fioravaniti during his work assisting first responders.

Facility Dog Ajax is deployed into the field to assist in lowering tension and stress among all first responders who endure traumatic events due to their profession.  Ajax does this by using some of the 40 tasks he mastered during his professional training at Canine Companions.  Ajax also participates in community and school events and will also assist the Delaware State Fire School with Fire Prevention.

Since 1975, Canine Companions has bred, raised, and expertly trained service dogs in over 40 commands designed to assist people with disabilities or to motivate and inspire clients with special needs.  Ajax can pull toy wagons, close drawers, and retrieve various items.  He has specific commands that allow him to interact with humans calmly and appropriately.

For over 45 years, Canine Companions has been enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by training and placing more than 7000 service dogs with program graduates, including more than 350 dogs with military veterans and more the 2,000 dogs with children.  The estimated cost of a highly trained Canine Companions facility dog like Ajax. And all the follow-up support, is $50,000, however each facility dog is provided at no cost.  Canine Companions depends on the support of tens of thousands of donors and volunteers to match our facility with a service dog like Ajax entirely free of charge.
