GOVERNOR-ELECT MATT MEYER ATTENDS COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS; SPEAKS TO SENIOR NATIONAL GUARD LEADERS

DELAWARE—On Saturday, Governor-elect Matt Meyer continued his commitment to community engagement and economic development by hosting two interactive events in Dover and Newark, kicking off two weeks of events to celebrate his inauguration as governor. The events were designed to connect with Delawareans, support local businesses, and hear directly from the public about their priorities. 

“Engaging directly with our communities, listening to their concerns, and understanding their challenges is at the heart of my vision for our state,” said Governor-elect Matt Meyer. “I’m committed to ensuring that state government is a partner in their success—cutting red tape, providing the resources they need, and creating an economy that works for everyone.” 

He also spoke at the 25th Annual Delaware National Guard Senior Leader Conference, held at Delaware State University.

“The men and women of the Delaware National Guard have always been a cornerstone of our state’s strength. As we face new challenges at home and abroad, I reaffirm my commitment to supporting our service members and ensuring they have the resources and respect they deserve,” said Governor-elect Matt Meyer.  “It was an honor to speak to leaders of the First State’s National Guard, and I look forward to continuing our work to serve Delaware with honor and courage.”

Remarks at the 25th Annual Delaware National Guard Senior Leader Conference

  • WHERE: Delaware State University, Dover, DE
  • WHAT: Governor-elect Matt Meyer addressed attendees at the 25th Annual Delaware National Guard Senior Leader Conference, held at Delaware State University. The theme of this year’s conference was “Fortifying Unified Strength,” which highlighted the importance of collaboration and strategic planning between military, governmental, and community stakeholders to strengthen Delaware’s preparedness and resilience.

Walking Tour of Downtown Dover

WHERE: Downtown Dover

WHAT: Governor-elect Meyer kicked off his inaugural celebration events with a walking tour of Downtown Dover, accompanied by local officials, community leaders, and members of the public. Along the route, the tour stopped at several small businesses, offering Meyer the opportunity to meet with business owners, staff, and customers. This event highlighted the importance of small businesses in Delaware’s economy and provided an opportunity for direct conversation between the incoming governor and the Dover community.

  • WHAT: In the afternoon, Governor-elect Meyer led a two-mile bike tour of Main Street Newark, starting and ending at the Newark Bike Project. During the ride, Meyer stopped at various local businesses, allowing Governor-elect Meyer to hear community and business leaders’ thoughts on priorities for the future. The bike tour was a fun, active way to connect with Delawareans while exploring one of the state’s vibrant college towns.

ABOUT DELAWARE GOVERNOR-ELECT MATT MEYER
Governor-elect Matt Meyer is a former public school math teacher and small business owner who has served as New Castle County Executive since 2017. As the leader of Delaware’s largest local government, Matt has proven that government can still work for the people– delivering real results for real people and making real progress for Delaware’s working families. Gov-elect Meyer will bring that same result-driven leadership across our state by creating an effective government that reflects our values and priorities. 

From Wilmington to Kenya and Iraq: Growing up in Delaware, Matt attended schools in the Brandywine School District, followed by Wilmington Friends School, and then studied Computer Science & Political Science at Brown University. He then moved to Nairobi, Kenya, where he learned Swahili and created Ecosandals, a recycled footwear company that sold environmentally friendly footwear to customers in 17 countries on five continents.  Matt subsequently spent 12 months in Mosul, Iraq, as a diplomat embedded with the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
