A Newark man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2021 murder of Dmajah Tickles.

Tramont Mitchell, 39, was sentenced on February 13 to life plus 50 years in prison. The sentence follows Mitchell’s convictions in 2024 by a Superior Court Jury on charges of First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony as well as his conviction by a judge on a severed charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited.

“Yet again, another life has needlessly been cut short by gun violence,” said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. “The work done here by our trial team and the Wilmington Police Department means justice for the victim and his family and a safer Delaware for all of us.”

On May 19, 2021, Tramont Mitchell fatally shot 19-year-old Dmajah Tickles, a New Castle resident, on the 2300 block of Carter Street in Wilmington. Following an investigation by the Wilmington Police Department, Mitchell was arrested at his home in Newark on March 2, 2022.
