Charter School Accountability Committee recommends conditions on Delaware Academy of Public Safety and Security’s charter

The Delaware Department of Education’s Charter School Accountability Committee today recommended four conditions that Delaware Academy of Public Safety and Security (DAPSS) must meet to retain its charter for next academic year due to academic, organizational and financial problems at the New Castle school.

A public hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. March 9 at the Collette Building, 35 Commerce Way, Dover. Public comment will be accepted through March 9. After reviewing the full record, Secretary of Education Susan Bunting will present her decision regarding the school’s future to the State Board of Education for its assent at the State Board’s March 15 meeting.




New ELA course helps students enter credit-bearing college courses

Students who fare well in a new high school English course are guaranteed to enter credit-bearing English classes at Delaware colleges and universities. The Foundations of College English course was developed through funding from Strada Education Network in partnership with the Delaware Department of Education and Delaware institutions of higher education to reduce college remediation rates. This course was designed to complement the Foundations of College Math course which was developed and launched in 2014.




Secretary Bunting encourages families, children to ‘Love the Bus’

Families, students and educators are celebrating the bus drivers and bus aides in Delaware who take more than 121,000 students safely to schools each day as part of the 11th annual national Love the Bus program this month.
