Nutrient Management Commission releases 2012 annual report

The Delaware Nutrient Management Commission has released its 2012 Annual Report, documenting the progress Delaware farmers and other nutrient handlers have made in reducing nutrient runoff.




Emerald Ash Borer traps ready to catch invasive forest pest

Delaware Department of Agriculture staff members are placing triangular purple traps in trees across Delaware in 54 locations, in all three counties, designed to detect whether a tree-killing insect has made its way into Delaware. The traps contain a nontoxic chemical lure that will attract an insect known as the Emerald Ash Borer, which can devastate ash trees, making up one percent of Delaware’s forests.

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) wants to know if you turn into a different person behind the wheel as they launch the agency’s aggressive driving campaign for 2013. The agency is building upon the brand “Respect the Sign” and reminding all drivers that aggressive driving is more than just speeding and is highlighting the other traffic behaviors drivers are likely to do such running stop signs, failing to yield, and changing lanes in an unsafe manner. The campaign will include high-visibility enforcement and awareness initiatives aimed at reducing aggressive driving-related traffic deaths.




Portion of Junction and Breakwater Trail re-routed

A quarter-mile section of the Junction and Breakwater Trail has been closed to make way for construction of a new, planned housing development in Lewes, near Cape Henlopen State Park. The affected area is located in the northernmost trail segment between the Hawkseye community and Gills Neck Road.
