Halloween Treats Can be Scary: DPH Tips for a Healthy Oct. 31

While the thought of getting tons of candy on Halloween night excites most children, it often terrifies their parents. Visions of all that sugar causing tooth decay and adding unnecessary pounds to both kids’ and adults’ waistlines can be frightening! Additionally, children with juvenile diabetes who need to manage their sugar and carb consumption may not be as thrilled to get a ton of chocolate. But there are healthy alternatives available for those who want to dish out more nutritionally balanced snacks instead of candy, that will still satisfy a child’s sweet tooth.

Fifteenth Annual Diabetes Wellness Expo Set for Nov. 1, 2016

More than 50 exhibitors will showcase health services, supplies and programs to Delawareans with diabetes at the Diabetes Wellness Expo, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Dover Downs Conference Center, in Dover. The expo will bring together healthcare facilities, diabetes-related organizations and businesses to provide an opportunity for people at risk for, or with, diabetes to access to the most up-to-date services, products and information.




Delaware Part of Multistate Settlement with Hyundai, Kia Over Fuel Economy Claims

DPH Announces First Confirmed Flu Case of 2016-2017 Season at Drive-Thru Flu Clinic Vaccination Event

Today, Delaware’s Division of Public Health (DPH) announced the state’s first laboratory-confirmed case of influenza for the 2016-2017 flu season. The case involves a 27-year-old Kent County man who was not hospitalized. DPH made the announcement during the press event portion of a drive-thru flu clinic held in Dover, which served as the official kickoff of its 2016-2017 flu season prevention efforts. The free drive-thru flu clinic was conducted outside of the Blue Hen Corporate Center in Dover. It was the first DPH drive-thru flu clinic in Kent County, and is expected to be the largest. DPH nursing staff, joined by Bayhealth nurses, administered intramuscular flu vaccines. Local radio station Eagle 97.7 provided entertainment.
