Culinary Training Facility at State’s Largest Prison dedicated to memory of Delaware Restauranteur Matt Haley

Today Governor Markell, Department of Correction and Department of Education administrators and State Senator Bruce Ennis, Chair of the Senate’s Corrections Committee, joined family members of the late Delaware Restauranteur Matt Haley and representatives from SoDel Concepts, the restaurant group he founded, to dedicate the future site of the Matt Haley Culinary Arts Training Center at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center (JTVCC) in Smyrna. Markell sought the funding to convert an unused cafeteria dining building at the state’s largest prison into the training facility, which will feature a commercial-style restaurant kitchen and an attached classroom. Funding was appropriated by the General Assembly in the Fiscal Year 2016 budget and the project is currently in the design phase.

Governor Jack Markell, Department of Correction administrators, and representatives from Delaware Technical Community College celebrated the graduation of 10 offenders from the Sussex Community Corrections Center (SCCC) who completed the culinary program offered at its newly renovated training facility.
Department of Correction searching for Wilmington work release offender

The Department of Correction announces that it is currently searching for a Wilmington Work Release offender. On the evening of November 21, 2015 Offender Cagney Brittingham was discovered to be missing during an evening offender count at the Plummer Community Corrections Center. Immediate attempts were undertaken to make contact with the offender and an escape warrant for his arrest was issued.

Governor Jack Markell, corrections officials, and non-profit service providers today visited the Rick VanStory Resource Center (RVRC) in Wilmington to mark the one year anniversary of an innovative partnership with the Department of Correction and highlight the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community-based pretrial supervision programs for low risk defendants whose needs for treatment and services outweigh their risks to public safety.

The Department of Correction announces that it is currently searching for two Wilmington Work Release offenders. On November 3, 2015 Offender Tyrone Baines absconded over the perimeter wall at the Plummer Community Corrections Center. On the evening of November 3, 2015, Offender Jerrin Herring failed to return as required to the Plummer Community Corrections Center from an approved job seeking pass. Immediate attempts were undertaken to make contact with both offenders and escape warrants for their arrests were issued on November 3.
