First Rate – First State Summit draws about 140 farmers and produce buyers

About 140 fruit and vegetable growers across Delaware and produce buyers from around the region met Wednesday at Delaware’s fifth annual produce marketing meet-and-greet session, the First Rate – First State Summit, designed to connect farmers with the people who purchase their products.

Governor Markell ordered the American and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff beginning Wednesday, February 6th until the close of business Thursday, February 7th in honor of former Adjutant General Arthur Episcopo.

Earlier this week, we shared some exciting news regarding Delaware’s public education system – next school year, nearly 1000 kindergarteners and first graders will be enrolled in our world language immersion program, spending half their school day learning in either Chinese or Spanish. Over the next decade, we expect that number to reach 10,000. It’s one of many ways we’re working to create a world class education system.
