Emergency operations drill underway at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center

The Delaware Department of Correction announces that an emergency operations drill is currently underway at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna. As part of the drill, the facility is being placed in an emergency lockdown, however staff is working to accommodate previously scheduled visits to the facility. No disruption is anticipated to the neighboring community.



Offender who fled during weekend pass back in custody

The Delaware Department of Correction announces that offender David L. Daniels, who failed to return from an authorized weekend pass issued by the Plummer Community Corrections Center in Wilmington, is back in custody.



Department of Correction graduates new class of Correctional Officers

Today, during a ceremony attended by more than 200 family, friends, and state officials, the Delaware Department of Correction marked the graduation of 30 employees who have completed the Department’s Correctional Employee Initial Training (CEIT) program.



Inmate Death – Richard Lum

Richard H. Lum, age 53, an inmate at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, died in the prison infirmary this morning, December 10, 2014, of natural causes following a lengthy illness.



Inmate Death – Steven Crawford

Steven Crawford, age 60, an inmate at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, died at Christiana Hospital on Sunday, December 7, 2014 of natural causes following a lengthy illness.
