Stretches of ocean beach reopened at Cape Henlopen State Park

DNREC has reopened stretches of ocean beach between Gordons Pond and Herring Point, and beachfront along the oceanside of The Point on Cape Henlopen, following the end of a piping plover nesting season that produced 13 plover fledglings.




Volunteers encouraged to sign up now for Delaware Coastal Cleanup Sept. 17

The 2016 Delaware Coastal Cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 17 at more than 50 sites statewide. Registration will close on September 5.




DNREC honors Delaware’s 2016 Wetland Warriors at State Fair

Governor Markell and DNREC Secretary Small honored wetland professional and geologist Bartholomew Wilson and teachers Robin Moxley and Patricia Bear as Delaware’s 2016 Wetland Warriors for their efforts to conserve and restore wetlands and to educate young Delawareans about the importance of these vital areas.




Online registration now open for 2016 Delaware Coastal Cleanup volunteers

Online volunteer registration has opened for the 30th annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup, to be held on Saturday, Sept. 17. The cleanup spans the First State’s 97-mile eastern coastline and includes river and ocean shorelines as well as wetland and watershed areas.




Amended Delaware Regulations Governing Beach Protection and Use of Beaches go into effect Aug. 11

DOVER (July 22, 2016) – Final amendments to Delaware’s Regulations Governing Beach Protection and the Use of Beaches – that implement legislative changes to the state’s Beach Preservation Act and clarify and codify the process for construction to help preserve the state’s fragile dune and beach system – will go into effect Aug. 11.
The amendments, pursuant to 7DE Admin. Code §5102, were approved July 15 in an order signed by DNREC Secretary David Small, and will be submitted to the State of Delaware’s Register of Regulations for publication Aug. 1.
