DNREC’s Delaware Coastal Programs (DCP) is soliciting letters of interest for participating in the Resilient Community Partnership program, whose aim is to improve the management and wise use of land and water resources while promoting compatible economic development in the coastal zone.




DNREC, DNERR collaborate on new national study examining sea level rise in tidal marshes

The Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve (DNERR), a partnership between DNREC and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), recently collaborated with 15 other National Estuarine Research Reserves in 13 coastal states on a first-in-the-nation research study that examined the capabilities of tidal marshes to keep pace with sea level rise. Results of the pioneering study, “Rising to the Challenge: Will Tidal Marshes Survive Rising Seas?” were recently published in Biological Conservation, an internationally-recognized journal of conservation and natural resource management. The study included a tidal marsh resiliency assessment of DNERR’s St. Jones Reserve in Dover.




State of Delaware releases 2016 progress report on climate change and steps forward

The State of Delaware this week released Climate Action in Delaware: 2016 Progress Report, highlighting the state’s progress toward meeting the challenges of climate change and outlining steps forward, DNREC announced today.




Sea Level Rise Awareness Week Sept. 14 – 22 encourages citizens to take actions to reduce impacts of sea level rise and climate change

At the DuPont Environmental Education Center on the Wilmington Riverfront, Governor Jack Markell, DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara, EPA Region 3 Administrator Shawn M. Garvin, Delaware Nature Society Exec. Dir. Brian Winslow and Delaware Wild Lands Exec. Dir. Kate Hackett joined with environmental organizations to announce the kick-off of Delaware’s first Sea Level Rise Awareness Week, Sept. 14 – 22. The week of activities, being sponsored by 14 Delaware environmental advocacy groups, was organized to raise awareness and encourage citizens to take actions to help reduce the potential impacts of sea level rise and climate change.




2013 Coastal Management Assistance Grants awarded by DNREC’s Delaware Coastal Programs

DNREC’s Delaware Coastal Programs is pleased to announce the awarding of the 2013 Coastal Management Assistance Program grants, with this year’s focus on projects that involve sea level rise and SLR adaptation planning. More than $126,000 was awarded this year through funding made available to the Delaware Coastal Programs by the Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
