High Path Avian Influenza Confirmed In Black Vultures, Poultry Producers Encouraged To Take Precautions

Federal laboratory testing confirmed cases of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (HPAI) in samples taken from black vultures initially found sick and dead on April 22 in Harford County, Maryland. Considering the ongoing detections in the black vulture population, all poultry owners need to continue with increased vigilance in protecting their flocks from contracting avian influenza.




Governor Carney Signs Paid Family Leave Legislation

Governor John Carney on Tuesday signed Senate Substitute 2 for Senate Bill 1 into law surrounded by members of the General Assembly and advocates. This legislation creates a statewide paid family and medical leave insurance program, offering eligible Delaware workers up to 12 weeks of paid leave to address a worker’s own serious health condition; to care for a family member with a serious health condition; to bond and care for a new child; or to address the impact of a family member’s military deployment.
