Governor Signs Justice Reinvestment Act

Governor Markell signed Senate Bill 226, which implements the recommendations of the Justice Reinvestment Task Force created by Executive Order Number 27.

Twelve (12) people were arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs during the sixth weekend of the 2012 Checkpoint Strikeforce DUI prevention campaign. This brings the total DUI arrests made as part of the campaign to 71. Statewide, there have been over 2,800 DUI arrests made in Delaware this year.

For the second time this summer, the Delaware Forest Service is sending a crew of 20 volunteers to battle a wildfire in the western United States.

At the Delaware SPCA in Stanton, Governor Markell signed into law a Senate Bill 211 which enhances Delaware’s definition of cruelty to animals by amending the definition of cruelty to animals to include tethering a dog for 18 or more hours in any 24-hour period.
