Delaware Division of the Arts invests $2.95 million in the arts sector for Fiscal Year 2016

Division grants support a variety of projects and programs, from storytelling for preschool reading readiness, to community-based participatory arts, to professional exhibitions and performances featuring local, national and international artists. These grants support arts programming offered by both arts and community organizations based in 23 large and small communities across Delaware.

Program explores child actress Shirley Temple’s July 2, 1938 visit to New Castle where she ate lunch in the Court House Tea Room.




Sculptor Robert Kelly to show work in the Mezzanine Gallery in July

The title Midway alludes to the space between science and art in which Kelly works as well as the arcade influences from a carnival midway. Kelly is inspired by movement and incorporates elements of amusement, surprise, and entertainment into his paper-based and pop-up sculpture.




“Painting Party @ The Pole Shed” to take place at New Castle, Del.’s Buena Vista Conference Center on June 23, 2015

A professional artist will provide guests with step-by-step instruction in creating their own versions of the painting “Peaceful Path.” Participants will then be able to take their paintings home with them.




Sculptor Harold Kalmus to show work in the Mezzanine Gallery in June

Harold Kalmus will show a variety of his figurative sculpture including large scale portraits, smaller full figure compositions, and figure study reliefs. Described as a “contemporary realist,” his style reflects a mastery of anatomy.
