Delaware Launches New Statewide AI Training for State Employees

WILMINGTON, Del. – The State of Delaware has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) training curriculum for state employees focused on the responsible, effective, and ethical use of AI across state government. Available through the Delaware Learning Center (DLC), the State’s online learning platform, the training reflects ongoing work led by the Delaware Artificial Intelligence Commission.
Established by the 152nd General Assembly, the Delaware AI Commission guides the state’s approach to artificial intelligence. The Commission is charged with making recommendations for executive and legislative actions related to AI, developing guidelines for state agencies, encouraging the use of AI to improve service delivery, ensuring AI is used in ways that protect Delawareans and maintain public trust, and conducting a statewide inventory of generative AI use to identify high-risk areas. The new training was developed in direct support of this work and the efforts of the Commission’s Training Subcommittee.
The initiative was coordinated by the Department of Human Resources (DHR) Division of Training and HR Solutions, in partnership with the Department of Technology and Information (DTI), the Department of Education (DOE), and the Government Efficiency & Accountability Review Board (GEAR). DHR worked with InnovateUS to develop the training and will manage it through the DLC.
“As technology continues to evolve, state government must innovate in ways that are practical, responsible, and without any job losses,” said Governor Matt Meyer. “This new training helps ensure our workforce is prepared to use AI as a tool to increase efficiency, improve services, and ensure government is working for all Delawareans.”
“This training is an important step in helping state employees understand how artificial intelligence can be used thoughtfully, responsibly, and in service of Delawareans,” said DHR Secretary Yvonne Anders Gordon. “As new technologies continue to emerge, it’s critical that our workforce has a strong foundation to use these tools appropriately and effectively.”
“The Delaware AI Commission was created to ensure that our state approaches artificial intelligence in a way that encourages innovation while safeguarding individual rights and public trust,” said Representative Griffith, Chair of the Delaware Artificial Intelligence Commission. “This training supports that charge by helping public servants understand AI, identify risks, and apply these tools responsibly to improve government services.”
“Collaboration is the cornerstone of progress as we embrace the possibilities of artificial intelligence,” said Acting Chief Information Officer Jordan Schulties. “Guided by recommendations and leadership from the Delaware Artificial Intelligence Commission and its AI Training Subcommittee, DTI partnered with agencies including the DHR, DOE, and GEAR to promote AI literacy, educate employees on the State’s Generative AI policy, and prepare our workforce to innovate responsibly while protecting public trust.”
The curriculum, titled Responsible AI for Public Professionals, is a three-part, self-paced training that covers the State’s Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy, responsible use of GenAI in government, and understanding risks and building resilience when using AI. The total training time is approximately one hour and 45 minutes. The training will be available to state employees through the DLC.
