Shipwrecks, Storms and Science: Program at Lewes, Del.’s Zwaanendael Museum on Oct. 5, 2013

Event to feature a day-long slate of historical games and maritime history and archaeology activities, plus a presentation on the Roosevelt Inlet and DeBraak shipwrecks.

Owners of quilts made before 1950 are encouraged to bring their quilts to this session which is designed to record Delaware’s rich tradition of quilt-making.




“An Illegal Activity: The Underground Railroad in Delaware”: New exhibit at Dover, Del.’s First State Heritage Park Welcome Center and Galleries

Exhibit explores the First State’s role in the Underground Railroad by showcasing Thomas Garrett and Samuel D. Burris and the actions they took in following their consciences rather than the law.




Programs on hearth cooking and food preservation at Dover, Del.’s John Dickinson Plantation

Programs to be offered during the second half of September 2013.




Sea Level Rise Awareness Week Sept. 14 – 22 encourages citizens to take actions to reduce impacts of sea level rise and climate change

At the DuPont Environmental Education Center on the Wilmington Riverfront, Governor Jack Markell, DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara, EPA Region 3 Administrator Shawn M. Garvin, Delaware Nature Society Exec. Dir. Brian Winslow and Delaware Wild Lands Exec. Dir. Kate Hackett joined with environmental organizations to announce the kick-off of Delaware’s first Sea Level Rise Awareness Week, Sept. 14 – 22. The week of activities, being sponsored by 14 Delaware environmental advocacy groups, was organized to raise awareness and encourage citizens to take actions to help reduce the potential impacts of sea level rise and climate change.
