Family Emergency Preparedness Day Saturday

 (Dover) – The 13th annual Family Emergency Preparedness Day event will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover, from 10:00AM until 2:00PM, featuring informative demonstrations and fun activities for all ages and all abilities.

The event is co-sponsored by the Delaware Citizen Corps, Kent County Department of Public Safety, Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), Delaware Division of Public Health-Office of Preparedness-Emergency Medical Services & Preparedness Section, Delaware Department of Safety & Homeland Security, and the City of Dover.

Activities and demonstrations include:

  • DEMA Drone Squad
  • American Red Cross Disney Pillow Case Project
  • Kent County Mobile Command Unit
  • Kent County Paramedics
  • Meet the Dover Police Department’s new mascot, Chase from “Paw Patrol”
  • Delaware State Police Mounted Patrol Unit
  • Dover Air Force Base fire prevention trailer and display
  • Little Creek Fire Company
  • Preparedness Train children’s ride
  • Live radio broadcasts on Eagle 97.7 and Cool 101.3 throughout the event
  • and much, much more.

Food demonstrations in the Preparedness Activity Tent include “Breakfast Bites Without Lights” and “Salad For a Tsunami”, along with the Red Cross Disney Pillow Case Project.  There will be Emergency Kit Relay Races for kids, and families can participate for prizes in the Preparedness and Safety Exhibitor Search.  To top things off, two Citizen Corps Emergency/Disaster kits will be given away each hour, exhibitors will have plenty of free preparedness giveaway items, and there will be free lunch for the first 1,000 visitors.

Thanks to Delmarva Power, Herr’s®, Delaware Electric Cooperative, Little Creek Fire Company, Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation, Delaware State Police Mounted Unit, Grotto Pizza, Tidewater Utilities, ACE Best Family Hardware, and Wal-Mart, who have made monetary donations and in-kind donations to Family Emergency Preparedness Day.  Volunteers from HOSA Delaware, Delaware Emergency Management Agency, Dover Air Force Base, Delaware Medical Reserve Corps, Little Creek Fire Company, Smyrna VIPS-CAP, and many others are assisting with the event.

Admission is free.  The Delaware Agricultural Museum is located at 866 N. Dupont Highway in Dover.
